--new-branch flag isn't recognized my MercurialEclipse when performing a Push.

The flag is used through an alias for push in my hgrc. The point is to not have to force push every time we introduce a new named branch, which we do all the time.

i.e.)

push = push --new-branch

That is very confusing numbering on the wiki. 6.1 is a subsection of section 6. Section 6 has title "6. 1.6 (2010-07-01)". Section 5 is version 1.6.1 "5. 1.6.1 (2010-08-01)". I also looked at hg-stable; it was added some time after 1.5.3. The reason I added it is I have 1.6 installed and it has --new-branch, I would never have guessed it was added in 1.6 looking at the wiki.

John, you changed hg-1.6.1 to hg-1.6.0.

I think we do need 1.6.1. Please check it (and scroll to 6.1. Core).

We are still working on this issue.

A new option will be provided under Preferences->Team->HG->Push new Branches Automatically with the default value true, thus anybody can disable this behavior.

I'm don't think it's a good idea to unconditionally add the --new-branch option when pushing from the sync view. If the push fails the wizard will pop up anyway.

The problem I'm concerned about is many developers here use private named branches for developemnt that they collapse-rebase when they're ready to be pushed. They don't want to accidentally push these branches.

Now push wizard has the option. In Synchronize view there's no option and --new-branch flag is used every time

In 1.7 we will provide a new option called Pushing new Branches Automatically with the default value true.

If the value is true --new-branch will be used during push.

This requires hg-1.6 thus the MercurialEclipse will require hg-1.6.

Now it will always add --new-branch option, so remote branches will be created with no exception. I'm not sure if we need to notify user about the new branch - if user created branch he should know about it

For me it also doesn't work - plugin skipped the hgrc preferance, however from console it worked

Sorry I thought you were referring to MercurialEclipse "1.6.2". Are there plans for releasing the next version soon? I noticed Ilya is checking in on default. Perhaps he should create a branch 'next' to work on.

The issue is the Mercurial currently bundled with MercurialEclipse is quite old, from before --new-branch was introduced. To workaround this uninstall the "executables" plugin and then it will use the hg.exe from your path which presumably supports --new-branch.
